A Short History of Spa Parts Plus (SPP) “The Original Spa Parts Company”

• In 1986, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) was founded by Barry & Paulette Knickerbocker in Riverside, CA.  Barry had been working with Hawkeye Spas when he realized there was service demand for replacement spa parts in the portable spa industry.

• In 1991, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) relocated to Prescott Valley, AZ and the team soon discovered they had created a loyal following through sheer hard work, determination, combined with invaluable industry knowledge in the quest for rare spa parts.

• In 2001, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) became an employee-owned company through an innovative ESOP program set up by the Knickerbockers and the business expanded to a central US warehouse based in Memphis, TN.

• In 2008, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) saw the esteemed founders return to the business to guide it through the Global Financial Crisis which hit the hot tub industry especially hard.  The Prescott Valley, AZ warehouse was consolidated into the Memphis, TN warehouse for a much more centralized operation to service the entire country coast to coast from a single location.

• In 2012, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) acquired California Specialty Distributors (CSD) which was founded by David & Susan Stern in 1974 in San Luis Obispo, CA, which provided SPP access to more spa accessories and an international clientele.

• In 2019, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) was merged with Allied Innovations which was already a super group of spa control companies.  These included Len Gordon Co., inventor of the first air control switch in 1972, Brett Aqualine, inventor of the first Spa-Pak in 1977, and Spa Builder Systems Group.  This increased the amount of proprietary and specialized spa parts made available through the SPP distribution business.

• In 2022, Spa Parts Plus (SPP) had a new ownership group which aimed to create a vertically integrated group of companies under the banner of ActivCarts.

• In 2024, only the B2B channel Spa Parts Plus (SPP) was acquired from this group to be returned to a wholesale only distributor serving the US and International markets by ASPS, a well-established wholesale only spa parts distributor serving the Canadian spa industry. This represents a revival of the “Original Spa Parts Company” to cater and serve to the wholesale spa industry trade with friendly service, technical expertise, and unwavering customer care.
